My thoughts of this dispute are that it should not have even been a research topic. Yes, it is a 'big' deal for Disney, but that is Disney not us. It may be relevant to other high officials, but not everyone cares.
The dispute is pretty pointless and is a battle of who has more proof of who it belongs to. One article said that Disney had been working on ideas for Frozen from 2001 and then brought it out to work on in 2010. Two other articles had completely different ideas. One had said that Frozen was based off a woman's autobiography while the other said it was stolen from a video the woman had created.
It boils down to, who had worked on it longer and if there was any previous patent or copyright on it. If Disney had it longer and put more work effort into it, then Disney should own the rights to it. If Kelly Wilson had put more work effort into it then it should be hers. But we do not know who put more work into it so there is no telling who actually owns it. If either one had put some kind of patent or copyright to it, then this dispute would not be happening and it would not be wasting time. Neither one of them can have any intellectual property protection on it because neither one decided to protect themselves when they cam dup with the idea.
One thing against Disney, is that they have admitted to using other stories and making them their own. But they usually ask permission before hand and tell whoever they took it form that they are using it. If Disney had taken it from Wilson, then they would have told her and this still would not be happening.
My personal opinion of the over all research was that it was a waste of time. There were other options to chose from that would better educate students and warn them of what is to come. Two of the other choices, water on Neptune sized planet and Ebola, could inform students of choices in life that can either lead to life or death. Personally, those choices seemed more wiser than looking up a silly dispute about ownership like Frozen. Ebola has proven itself to be life threatening and people should know about how dangerous it is and if there actually is water on another planet, or moon, then we should look up that to see if we a=can potentially live there. Either we look up things that can kill us or keep us alive, or we are ignorant of these things and research a topic that is just blasphemy.
I would hope that the next topic we decide to do, the class look at the education value of and chose properly. We are in school to learn, so one would think we would research topics that are helpful to one another and highly educational. Not just a form of getting out of work by doing things that are not educational and simple. In a higher class, like we are in, it only makes sense to do things that are more complex.
